Diva can make a rank 4 WATER Xyz on her own with the skill or make Anomalocaris with just 1 Paleo, and grants access to Heavy Infantry pop. Spellbook Magician can provide serious deck thinning through Knowledge, long term card advantage through Tower, and non-targeting removal through Fate. They are better than other Normal Summon options that don't do as much on their own, such as Ipiria, Swap Frog or Dark Beckoning Beast.
Every Paleo played should be at 2 or more copies because it means that 1 can be discarded and another copy can still be accessed. Canadia is the most valuable because it is disruption without cost. Olenoides is theoretically the best Paleo because it trades the most favorably in terms of card advantage and is great for dealing with annoying backrow and floodgates, but it isn't always a disruption. Dinomischus has the strongest effect, but the discard requirement is steep in early turns.
Of course, this deck needs a strong limited 3 removal trap. Compulsory Evacuation Device is simple and strong. Ice Dragon's Prison is probably better against the meta, but I don't own any. Crackdown can clog zones and is bad.
Survival is vital for a slower deck like this one. Swords of Revealing Light gives a lot of time to set up if not removed. With a discard, Hallowed Life Barrier can protect all monsters from battle (but not effect) destruction, and makes the player immune to all damage for the turn (including effect damage). A discarded Paleo can be chained to summon. Aegis of the Ocean Dragon Lord has no cost and can protect all main deck monsters and Paleos from both battle and effect destruction. However, it cannot protect the Extra Deck Monsters and it does not prevent battle/effect damage. The Regulation of Tribe also protects from opposing attacks for one or more turns, but is vulnerable to removal.
For the Extra Deck, Full Armored Utopic Ray Lancer is great for cleaning up a bunch of smaller monsters in an otherwise slower deck, and can turn a defensive Opabinia into an offensive tool, pitching the searched Paleo in the process. Using the skill, Rank 4 WATER Xyz monsters are easily accessible. Abyss Dweller has a good effect against many decks and is a quick pop with Heavy Infantry. Number 37 is weaker, but its ability to overcome 3000 attack monsters comes up sometimes. 2 Opabinias are a must. Second Anomalocaris can come up. Marincess link is used to free up zones , reuse Heavy Infantry, or to put more attack power on field.
